I learned a lot about the pivot, low point and the flying wedges during the process that’ve kept in my swing, but I’ve long gone back to a more flowing and feel-based swing. A lot of the new swing methodologies I see out there are variations on parts of SnT, which itself was just a well marketed variation of previous teachings. The shoulder tilt/back extension/weight forward teaching were far less common when it initially came out, but it’s everywhere now. I think a huge percentage of what it teaches is common to most one-plane golf swings. The hip movement is more difficult with longer clubs and could strain the back if done wrong ( and if you have a hit impulse ). This is where back complaints may come in. I was uncomfortable with the reliance on hip slide and am more naturally a two plane golfer. The method felt very stiff to me and formulaic. Director of Instruction at GolfTEC Denver, Ty Walker, explains how tour players achieve such power from effortless looking golf. I lost a lot of feel in my short game ( wedges ) and was inconsistent with driver. GolfTEC: Tilt and turn early for an efficient swing. I imagine it would work even better with a ‘single length’ set. Strong flights, nice tight draws, great accuracy.

There is a lot of advice on how to avoid a reverse pivot because of the right leg straightening move, but a lot of hip slide and leg work is required. If anything, some of the upper body pivot stuff taught me better habits in terms of shoulder tilt and spine straightening. Did not use an instructor, which was my primary mistake, as I couldn’t evolve my swing beyond the irons.Ĭontrary to some comments above, it was not tough on my back. Try my 2 o’clock drill to help with this problem. It is the turning of the shoulders that causes the over the top swing path. The stack part actually makes the tilt more difficult to perform in my estimation and leans toward that dreaded “reverse pivot” that so many golfers worked so hard to alleviate. The latest craze is this “Stack and Tilt” thing. They ALL have nagging problems and they know how to keep them under control. That’s why I look at someones natural tendencies and chip away at the areas where most of the improvement would be recognized and enjoyed. You would have to hit golf balls until your hands bleed to reprogram your body to move contrary to its natural tendencies. Why? Because you can NOT force fit yourself to any one’s method. I shy away from all these types of so called magic methods and so should you. The Stack & Tilt swing philosophy: In his book on the mechanics, physics and geometry of the golf swing 2, Homer Kelley stated that there are three imperatives in a golf swing and three essentials - and when combined together they represent the fundamental TGM principles of a golf swing. the one plane or two plane swing….wow which one am I…somethings it looks like I’m the fourth plane swinger!

Many of the golf lesson businesses come up with cute descriptions of their method like the X Factor….whooooo…. However some motions can cause you such difficulty that they just can’t be overcome such as a sever “over the top” swing path. If you’re focused on performing a specific movement and if you can repeat it time and again…even if it’s wrong…at least you have some predictability in your ball flight and you can plan accordingly. A great dedicated golf teacher Doc Prose once said “Any system is better than not having one”.
